How to choose the right sleeping bag?

Posted by Marine Fontana on

The sleeping bag, or sleeping bag, is one of the essentials for babies. In addition to being terribly cute when a baby is wrapped inside, it's especially useful for keeping babies warm.

If you've ever been curious, you've probably seen the countless number of sleeveless sleeping bags that exist on the market.

How to make the right choice ?

What is the difference between a sleeping bag and a sleeping bag?

Have you ever heard these two very different words when talking about this essential accessory for baby's sleep?

Don't worry, you won't need both because... they're exactly the same thing. It's like pain au chocolat, some will call it chocolatine... and ultimately it means the same thing!

What is the sleeping bag used for?

The sleeping bag keeps your baby at the right temperature. It's sort of his own blanket wrapped around him to keep him warm.

It also provides security and comfort. In a sleeping bag, your baby will not be able to go very far. He is free to “wiggle” but without making big movements. Having the body wrapped prevents him from turning around or getting up.

Baby also feels reassured by being wrapped in this fabric. It's like a little cocoon all to himself.

What are the criteria to take into account when choosing the right sleeping bag?

Two essential criteria: size and thickness.

The sleeping bags can have different sizes. You will find sleeping bags from birth and up to 36 months.

It is important to adapt the size of this sleeping bag to the size of your child. Indeed, if you choose a sleeping bag that is too large, your baby could slip inside, get lost and even worse, suffocate.

In terms of thickness, the thicker the sleeping bag, the more ideal it will be for the cold season. To check their seasonality, you can rely on the TOG.

What is TOG?

The TOG (Overall Thermal Grade) measures the thermal resistance of the sleeping bag. In short, the higher the TOG of a sleeping bag, the warmer it will be.

The TOGs range from 0.5 to 3.5. The finest being 0.5, which will then be most suitable for the hot season.

Here is a table to help you get your bearings:

Understanding TOG

It's up to you to adapt the thickness of your baby's sleeping bag and clothing to the temperature of the room, not the outside temperature.

An all-season sleeping bag?

An all-season sleeping bag is not ideal for a baby. It really needs to be adapted to the temperature of the room. And we all know, your home does not have the same temperature in the middle of August as it does in the middle of January.

Milinane offers two types of sleeveless sleeping bags: summer (NINA) and winter (NINON)

The summer sleeping bag is light. It is located in TOG 0.5 to 1. Its cotton material lets baby's skin breathe while keeping it at the right temperature. So baby doesn't feel cold and doesn't sweat either.

The winter sleeping bag is fleece, and therefore thicker. It is perfect for the winter season. It corresponds to a TOG 2 and can be worn with pajamas or a long-sleeved bodysuit.

What material should you choose for the sleeping bag?

Turn to natural materials, such as cotton. It is a breathable material that prevents excess heat.

The 100% cotton sleeping bags from Milinane are ultra soft to promote the comfort of your baby.

Young children are still very fragile. Pay attention to the composition of the products you use. Prefer certified fabrics to preserve the planet and to avoid the risk of allergies, small pimples, dry skin... Oeko-Tex certification, for example, guarantees the absence of chemicals in the fabric, which whether in manufacturing or dyeing.
